THE
OHIO POSTAL HISTORY SOCIETY
After the rate change of
1845 and into the 1850s, Cincinnati used a series of "integral rate"
markings that included the postal rate as part of the postmark
itself. The devices were intended to increase postal efficiency
by reducing the number of postal markings needed on each piece of
mail. As adhesive postage stamps became the normal method(and
then the required method) of paying postage, the use of these markings
declined and then disappeared.
These scans are of this one-frame exhibit as shown at the 2006
Garfield-Perry March Party, where it was awarded a gold medal.
