THE
OHIO POSTAL HISTORY SOCIETY
2005 Annual Meeting Report
Scott Pendleton agreed to expand on his activities with the Harrison
County Historical Society and create a generic article on local/county
postal history. The intent is to convince local historical
societies to publish the article as, often, the only artifact remaining
from a long gone village is a postmarked cover or stampless
letter. The hope is that this will create a few new
collectors. As most of us have experienced, once an individual
becomes interested, they are quite likely to become collectors.
The OPHS website was reported to be up and running (well, at least
‘jogging’). The address is www.ohiopostalhistory.org. Matt
Liebson has added some good content but more is needed. Please
forward your ideas to Matt at paperhistory@mindspring.com or Mark
Reasoner at mreasoner@columbus.rr.com or mail to the society's mailing
address, PO Box 98, Northfield OH 44067.
A volunteer was requested to compile and update the Journal
index. This was last done in 1993. If you can help, please
contact Mark Reasoner or Matt Liebson at the addresses above.
Annual meeting locations for 2006 and 2007 were established. The
2006 meeting was confirmed for Garfield-Perry (Cleveland) in March and
the 2007 meeting was set for Colopex (Columbus) in March, 2007.
The major discussion item on the annual meeting agenda is the
publishing of the monograph on Dick Parker’s exhibit. Tom Allen
showed a sample copy and reported that the printing should be complete
and members should receive their copy soon. It will include all
160 pages of Dick’s exhibit plus an additional 18 that didn’t fit in a
10 frame exhibit.
Scott Pendleton presented an informative and entertaining program on
Harrison County postal history, with a focus on stampless covers and
fancy cancels.
